Welcome To Dr. Parbatani Centre For Eye

Glaucoma screening & management Early detection is the key to preserving vision

At Dr. Parbatani Centre For Eye, glaucoma is treated as a silent yet serious threat to vision. Caused by increased eye pressure, it gradually damages the optic nerve and can lead to irreversible blindness. Since it progresses without symptoms, regular screening—especially after 40 or with a family history—is vital for preserving sight.

About Surgery

Why Glaucoma Screening is Important

Many forms of glaucoma progress silently, without any noticeable symptoms in the early stages. By the time vision changes become apparent, significant and often irreversible damage to the optic nerve may have already occurred. This makes glaucoma one of the most dangerous eye conditions, as it can quietly compromise vision without warning. That’s why early detection through regular screening is essential—particularly for individuals over 40 or with a family history of glaucoma.

At Dr. Parbatani Centre For Eye, we offer comprehensive glaucoma evaluations using advanced diagnostic technology. Our thorough assessments are designed to detect early changes in eye pressure, optic nerve health, and visual field performance. With these tools, we can diagnose glaucoma even before vision is affected and begin proactive treatment to manage the condition effectively. Early intervention is the key to preserving your sight and maintaining long-term eye health.

Why Dr. Parbatani Centre For Eye is the Preferred Choice for Glaucoma Care in Pune

Here are the key diagnostic services we offer to accurately detect and manage glaucoma, helping preserve optic nerve health and prevent vision loss:

OCT (Single Eye) – Optical Coherence Tomography: OCT is a state-of-the-art, non-invasive imaging test that captures high-resolution, cross-sectional images of the retina and optic nerve head. This advanced scan allows us to detect early structural changes in the optic nerve caused by glaucoma—often before any symptoms or vision loss occur. It plays a vital role in both diagnosis and ongoing monitoring, helping us track disease progression and tailor treatment plans accordingly.

Eye Pressure Testing (AT + NCT): Monitoring intraocular pressure (IOP) is essential in glaucoma care, as elevated IOP is one of the primary risk factors for optic nerve damage. We use two reliable techniques—Applanation Tonometry (AT) and Non-Contact Tonometry (NCT)—to measure eye pressure accurately and comfortably. Regular pressure checks allow for early detection of abnormalities and guide decisions on medication or other treatments to control and stabilize eye pressure.

Perimetry (Single Eye) – Visual Field Testing: Perimetry, or visual field testing, evaluates both central and peripheral vision to detect areas of vision loss caused by glaucoma. Since peripheral vision is often affected first, this test is crucial for identifying functional damage that may not yet be noticeable to the patient. The results help us assess the severity of the condition, determine how it’s affecting daily vision, and adjust the management plan accordingly.

  • Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, often due to high intraocular pressure. It is a leading cause of irreversible blindness. Early detection is crucial, as the disease typically progresses without noticeable symptoms, and damage can occur before you notice vision loss.

  • Glaucoma is often called the "silent thief of sight" because it typically develops without warning signs. The best way to know if you have glaucoma is through regular eye exams that include tests for intraocular pressure, optic nerve health, and visual fields.

  • Certain factors increase the risk of developing glaucoma, including being over the age of 40, having a family history of the condition, being of African, Hispanic, or Asian descent, or having certain medical conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

  • We use a combination of advanced diagnostic tools, including Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), eye pressure testing (AT and NCT), and visual field testing (Perimetry) to detect glaucoma at its earliest stages.

  • Yes, although there is no cure for glaucoma, it can be effectively managed with treatment. Early diagnosis allows us to begin treatment early, often involving medication, laser therapy, or surgery to control intraocular pressure and prevent further optic nerve damage.

  • If you are over 40, have a family history of glaucoma, or are at higher risk due to other factors, it is recommended to have a comprehensive eye exam, including glaucoma screening, every 1-2 years. If you are already diagnosed with glaucoma, more frequent monitoring may be necessary.

  • Most types of glaucoma do not cause any pain, especially in the early stages. This is why it’s important to have regular screenings, as the disease often progresses unnoticed without symptoms.

  • While glaucoma cannot always be prevented, early detection and timely treatment can help preserve vision and slow the progression of the disease. Regular eye exams and managing risk factors, such as controlling eye pressure, can significantly reduce the chances of vision loss.
